NYSC Osun rejects the report of a corps member going missing
A story on the purported disappearance of corps member Adewebi Opeoluwa, who was working at St. James Grammar School in Ayetoro, Olorunda Local Government Area of the state, has been clarified by the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Osun State.
Contrary to claims that had gone viral online, the NYSC stated that the corps member, identified by registration number OS/26A/5230, was neither missing nor abducted.
Otemuyiwa Catherine, the NYSC Osun State Public Relations Officer, signed the statement providing the explanation on behalf of Ekeng Ita Kubiangha, the State Coordinator.
“Adewebi had confirmed that she was safe and accounted for,” the statement said. After her mother couldn’t get in touch with her for a few days, the first alarm went off.
The NYSC Osun State Command stressed that there was no reason to be alarmed and thanked those who voiced concerns and attempted to find the corps member.
Adewebi was supposedly missing since September 20, according to a story released by an online media outlet on Thursday, which further heightened the suspicions.
On Monday, September 28, 2026, Adewebi issued a public notification and retraction stating that the information was inaccurate.
“I wish to state categorically that I was not missing, nor was I kidnapped,” she said.
The corps member clarified that the alarm, which was then spread by the media, was caused by her mother’s inability to get in touch with her for a few days.
“I want to declare that I am safe, accounted for, and not in any danger,” she said.
Adewebi also admitted that her mother’s worries over her incapacity to get in touch with her prompted the first report, which was submitted in good faith.
She stated, “The media outlet made the initial report in good faith to appease my mother, who was so scared after not hearing from me.”
The corps member expressed regret to the NYSC community, her State Coordinator, her Place of Primary Assignment, friends, and coworkers for the worry and uncertainty the report had created.
“I sincerely apologise for any alarm, distress, or confusion the post may have caused the entire NYSC community in Osun State at large,” she stated.
